The Definition of Insanity
So, just so that we’re clear on this. We are building an army full of people who are still getting pension payments from an organization that the U.S. has designated a terrorist organization. And we are basing our entire future in Iraq on that army. Not only that, but when this army decides it’s going to take out its major opponent for power as it did last week, and doesn’t even tell us about it, we still back it up with air power and American troops as it stumbles. And then we tell everybody that this is a good sign. And then Fred Hiatt agrees.
Basically, anyone - and I include any one - who thought this was a good idea is insane. Certainly, there's been those who have come back from the brink of this insanity and have returned to some semblance of what we would recognize as normal sanity. However - and let me make this crystal clear - if you think that anything - and I'm even talking about any mealy mouthed, weak kneed version of success you may mumble under your breath while the dirty hippies beg you to leave this insanity - good will come out of our continued presence in Iraq you are certifiably insane. Full stop.
Nothing you are doing is making any sense what so ever. You are fighting a war started for political purposes, pushed by people even more bat shit fucking crazy than you are, and run by people who are so unbelievably incompetent that it literally has broken your mind and left you shattered in a pool of some silly version of "honor" that you think is worth fighting for.
Just stop it. Doing nothing is far better for these people. Every millisecond we are there is just screwing them over worse than anything they could do to themselves. We don't "own" Iraq because we "broke" it. Anyone who believes in the "Pottery Barn" analogy of Iraq is equally fucked up beyond belief. I mean, just run the scenario in what little passes for your mind at this point. We didn't just wander into a Pottery Barn store and break a vase, leaving the rest of the store completely intact. No. What we did was walk in with a few cluster bombs, guns and a few humvees and ran around killing people - not to mention wrecking everything in our path.
Now, anyone who would think that it would be in Pottery Barn's best interest to have the bat shit crazy wackos stay and "fix things up" (aka fucking things up even more) is completely and utterly insane. When you run roughshod over Pottery Barn in the fashion we've run over Iraq, they would lock you up and throw away the key. The police wouldn't even think of putting you in charge of recovering from the rampage of chaos you just unleashed.
Geebus...
"Pottery Barn Rule". I literally have never heard anything stupider in my entire life than Colin Powell's utterance which has swayed even people who should know better. This isn't a fantasy land.
