First we kill all the lawyers

A few short days ago, everyone was kind of laughing/crying about the fact that pretty much all the serious presidential candidates are all lawyers. Myself, I didn't find this particularly odd. Law, contrary to the popular myth, is a specialization and is subject to the same rules of all specializations. The fact that most of the politicians in higher office are all lawyers strikes me a completely unsurprising fact. Duh.

Just think it's kind of funny that lawyers are a common target by the right leaning in their never ending attempts at authoritarian rule.

Speaking of never ending attempts at authoritarian rule, I find it especially ironic that the lawyers are leading the opposition to our good friend and personal thug on terror, El Presidente and head of the Army of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf. It's a cold reminder of just how essential lawyers are to a democracy - critical, in fact. Without lawyers, democracy as we know it would simply be a dream. Laugh if you like, but who the hell are you going to call when jonny law comes a knockin' - or your neighbor's car runs through your living room? Ghost busters?

Be thankful that we have a strong legal community and tradition.

Which brings me to a rather ironic post at the fabled blog, Redstate: Hawkish on Sedition. Seems that Paul J.Cella is calling for exactly the same kind of laws that Pervez Musharraf is implementing at this precise moment.

No one there seems to think this is ironic.

I think the right - or what used to be called the right - has finally crossed that thin line and now they're fitting themselves for a new wardrobe consisting primarily of brown shirts.
