Vietnam All Over Again

I had predicted this was going to happen, but I had no idea that it was going to happen so soon.

Homeless shelters getting Iraq vets

"This is what happened with the Vietnam vets. I went to Vietnam," said John Keaveney, chief operating officer of New Directions, a shelter and drug-and-alcohol treatment program for veterans in Los Angeles. "It is like watching history being repeated," Keaveney said.

Experts said the high number of Iraq vets with mental illness seems almost certain to fuel the problem.

Data from the Department of Veterans Affairs shows that as of last July, nearly 28,000 veterans from Iraq sought health care from the VA. One out of every five was diagnosed with a mental disorder, according to the VA. An Army study in the New England Journal of Medicine in July showed that 17 percent of service members returning from Iraq met screening criteria for major depression, generalized anxiety disorder or PTSD.

Considering how our past veterans have been treated by this administration, I have no doubt that I'll be seeing these new veterans on the streets for the next few decades.

Ye gods. The war bloggers and other rabid right wing attack dogs make me sick with rage. This is no way to treat people who put their lives on the line for this country (and I don't even agree with this war).

I simply cannot believe this is the country that I thought I used to know.

Cut me a break you horse's ass. A couple of hysterical so called "homeless advocates" claim that Iraq vets are showing up with out giving ONE SINGLE FACT and you are off and running gnashing your teeth and wringing your hands. Bet you fell for Rather's memos hook line and sinker.
Do you suppose there are any shelter residents that voted for the clueless Kerry? Did Kerry cause their homelessness?

News Flash: Afghanistan's first ever in history democratically elected president was sworn in yesterday.
Another new democracy....thank you President Bush

As I said, your kind makes me sick with rage.

"Now's the time for you and me, got to revolution, got to revolution!"

Mark, fucktard, I've got you in my crosshairs.

One. Very. Pissed. Off. Viet Nam. Vet.

I forgot something. Wasn't Afghanistan going to be the next Viet Nam??? What happened to the quagmire Dan Rather so breathlessly reported on? Could it possibly be that Iraq may become the next Afghanistan? Has anyone considered that?

Now for my dear friend Mr. Ware. You are like a gift from GOD!!!!! Last week I received my White House Christmas card, the other day my George W. Bush Commemorative cigars, yesterday my RNC calendar (13 month) and now you. Now I am certain I will get that pony I have wanted all these years.

First Mr. Viet Nam veteran Ware. Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. I am sorry that a few comments on a web blog has caused you to put me in your "crosshairs".
The reason that I immediately thank you for your service is because I remember as a returning vet from being in country I was spat upon in the Philadelphia airport. I remember going into a bathroom stall and changing into civies and then taking the train to Penn station and changing back into uniform as the train entered the tunnel so that I would be in uniform when I met family. My inlaws lived on Long Island and as soon as we got to their house and pics were taken it was back into civies. Pretty fucked up Huh????
I hope your side of the aisle doesn't do that again to our present day vets.
I am not sure what being in your crosshairs really means but this "baby killer" is not very impressed. Actually I kinda look forward to it.

Wow, I love the angry self-proclaimed Vietnam vets who want to tar everyone who wants to bring the troops home now (thus killing fewer of them in a pointless colonial war) with the brush of a few radicals over thirty years ago.

How many young men and women will have to die or be maimed in Iraq before these pissed off old men will start to see that those of us who oppose the Iraq war do so because we think the trust that the troops place in their civilian leadership is violated by this colonialist adventurism, not because we think the troops are evil?

All of them? Probably, because it's not about doing anything sensible or actually listening to what the people who oppose this war say -- it's about coming up with straw men, and using this war to try to exorcise their own demons, just like unhappy parents try to drive their children to succeed where they failed. That's the only reason I can see for the endless trolling and self-righteous anger ("I was in 'Nam. I was spat upon! Fuck you, every single Democrat!") at people today about events thirty years old for which they might not even have been alive. That's sad.

Mark is a vet? That's a good one. You're a liar, Mark. A coward. Hiding behind the anonymous internet because if anyone knew who you were, you'd be laughed out of any conversation you inject yourself into.

Mark - You are a liar.

The "spitting on returning vets" meme has long been thoroughly disproved as an urban legend.

Google it.

When you threaten my friends, you threaten me... and I am not at all adverse to engaging in physical violence (I'm really quite good at it, unfortunately) in defense of that which I believe in.

Mark is a liar, and a pretty poor one at that. But he's like the puss that seeps out of an infection - a symptom, not the root cause. He's scum unworthy of even the attention we're giving him. He'll bluster and strut, but he'll still hide behind the safe anonymity of the aol proxy.

He's a lying coward, through and through.

Or a perl script. I haven't been able to determine which at this point.

Now isn't this interesting. I have been posting comments on this site for months and have never mentioned being a veteran. You see unlike a certain presidential candidate and a fellow poster on this site I do not wear it on my sleeve.
I never mentioned it until our friend Thomas Ware declared himself to be a RVN Vet and a pissed off one at that. Said he had me in his "crosshairs".

I certainly hope that Mr. Ware is pissed off about maybe getting a parking ticket and still not pissed off about what happened over thirty years ago. If he hasn't gotten past that by now he has (as I suspect) some serious serious problems. I find a couple of things pretty interesting. First when Mr. Ware declared himself to be a vet no one called him a liar. I also noticed that I was the only one to thank him for his service. And lastly I noted that none of you were bothered in the least by his threatening language.

This explains how an anti American puss bag like Michael Moore became the face of todays democrat party. You people have no principles anymore. You only care about power and if someone agrees with you regardless of how repugnent they are you'll take it. Come on Hal, call Ware a liar.

In a later post your wacky friend Mr. Ware threatens me with physical violence. Again not a peep out of anyone about that. What a bunch of peace loving souls.

I only mentioned my service after Mr. Ware claimed his and Hal screems that I am a liar but Mr. Ware gets a free ride. Well I propose that we get to the bottom of this. What do you say Hal? I'll bet you just run way.

I served in the United States Army Special Forces. I served with the 10th and 5th groups on active duty and the 19th group in the reserves after active duty. My primary MOS was demolitions and my secondary MOS was indirect fire/heavy weapons. Lets come up with a mutually agreeable method of proving that to your satisfaction Hal while maintaining a level of confidentiallty on my part. We should expect Mr. Ware to participate as well. I will trust your judgement on the matter Hal even though you have already called me a liar. I trust that you will report to our little group your findings fairly. Wouldn't it be fun if it turns out that our Mr. Ware is actually the fraud?
Hal, I have some ideas if you care to e-mail me directly.

Mark

Bush/Rice08

Of course I will. I've sent off the email - hey, you could have just emailed me with your ideas.

But it's notoriously difficult to prove anything over the internet, as you well know. So your ideas will have to be pretty darn good ones.

Well, Mark has sent me a digital photo of his certificate of completion of the special forces engineering NCO candidate course, completed in November of 1970. I personally have no way of verifying the authenticity of this document, but it's sufficient for me to withdraw my claim that Mark is a liar. I apologize for the remark.

Hal,
You have shown yourself to be a gentleman.

Mark

Mark, I believe that Thomas was calling you a liar for the remark that you were spit upon when coming home from Vietnam. I was the one calling you a liar for being a Vietnam vet.

As to your other points, it should be pretty clear that I'm not a peacenik. I opposed the war in Iraq because it was a stupid action that would have precisely the opposite effect that it was intended, and it would cost us dearly in lives, treasure and diplomatic capital.

As to Thomas' authenticity as veteran, you're absolutely right. I have a higher degree of skepticism when it comes to you and that's just part of my own confirmation bias. I'm quite sure I have a zillion other blind spots as well.

But I am going to be quite a bit more careful when calling people a liar and a coward, as I seem to have severely jumped the gun in this matter, and appear to have been quite wrong.

Again, my apologies.

Let's not go too far, Mark. A real gentleman would have demanded proof before calling someone a coward and a liar. I'm just a guy who's willing to admit when he's wrong - let's just leave it at that.

Also, coming from Mark, that evaluation doesn't mean diddly, given that he feels compelled to troll you, started this particular conversation by calling you a horse's ass, and has yet to add any value that I've seen other than nasty taunts -- all things that a man of quality would not do.

"DESIGNED TO HARM" A FERES "INCIDENT"?

The U.S. Senate’s Department Of Defense (DOD) "designed to harm" experiments have an outstanding characteristic.[6] Their objectives are to determine the debilitating affects of weapon systems and protection from same, e.g., the results of the Project 112 chemical and biological causes.[3] Other than those useful for short term objectives there is no "to harm" follow-up treatment for a subject’s long term consequences. The Top Secret 1953 DOD Secretary’s NO non-consensual experiments MEMO wasn’t declassified until 1975, 22 years later![2] Under the secrecy cover the 1962 Project 112 it didn’t become generally known until about 2002, 40 years later! Then the 1994 Report’s many other covered up experiments.[6] All 50 years of time spans well beyond those needed for shot term DOD Research and Development (R&D) goals!

In 1950 the U.S. Supreme Court stopped claims against the federal government for injuries arising from or incident to military service; Feres Doctrine.[1] Covering this same time period is a study from 1944 documented by the 1994 U.S. Senate Report. This is the 50 years of conducted on "hundreds of thousands" DOD "EXPERIMENTS THAT WERE DESIGNED TO HARM"![6] Its NOTES (No.’s 72, 168 & 169) cite, "The Nazi Doctors and the Nuremberg Code, Human Rights in Human Experimentation". Not addressed is their own Report’s proven dereliction of duty! Which is its experiments conducted in direct disobedience of the DOD Secretary’s 1953 order; "The Nazi Doctors" pages 343-345.[2]

These DOD human experiments demonstrate R&D protocol by both military and civilian agencies. First, all prior R&D is reviewed. The resulting Scope of Work defines what each research program is to accomplish. The where, how, when and who is involved is spelled out. Each "designed to harm" project’s cause and effects are closely followed and recorded. Developed is the specific needed treatment and protection from "to harm".

This crucial human "experiments...designed to harm" revealing evidence is not part of a subject’s medical history. Therefore, unavailable for a past, present and future victim’s diagnosis and treatment by Health Maintenance Organization Physicians’, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Physicians’ or for use during any VA and Judicial Branch processes! The 12 July 1973 National Personnel Records Center fire destroyed "designed to harm" military service records. Congress’s 1974 Privacy Act censored the names of all witnesses from surviving and future records. The 1987 U.S. SUPREME COURT in the 1953 disobedience STANLEY Case makes very clear that UNLESS CONGRESS CHANGES IT, BY REASON OF MILITARY SERVICE AFTERWARDS VETERAN’S LOST ARE PRIOR TO CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS.[4] "The court may not review the schedule of ratings for disabilities or the policies underlying the schedule." The Chief Judge’s statement during 17 & 18 Oct. 1994.[5] His severely restricted 12/18/88 established ‘no teeth’ Veterans Court is congress’s oversight and accountability response to STANLEY.

THEREBY, THE VICTIM NEVER THE WISER BECOMES! AN AFTER SERVICE AND "NATIONAL SECURITY MISSIONS" MISSED MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS. CREATED ARE INCREASED SERIOUS AND CHRONIC INJURIES!

Under the "NATIONAL SECURITY MISSIONS" of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) [7] continued in 2007 is the advancement of the SHAD R&D lessons learned? One of the starting in 1962 DOD Project 112 chemical and biological experiments.[3] BARDA also lacks the MILITARY Shipboard Hazard and Defense (SHAD) oversight and accountability for their CIVILIAN biological contamination. BARDA too, as most conducted on "hundreds of thousands", will be under the cover of our nation’s wars. In 2007 is the H. R. 4259 "To establish the Veterans' Right to Know Commission."[8] A proposal to study the DOD’s SHAD lack of oversight and "Right to Know" accountability?

The 1994 Senate Report documents many more"experiments that were designed to harm".[6] Most were also in direct disobedience of the DOD Sec.’s 1953 order. Noted was that rights be restored. This still has not been done!! All for the greater good, end justifies the means! The excuse for an in 2007 from 1944 ongoing 63 years of "hundreds of thousands" [6] JUSTICE AND TREATMENT DENIED! By the 2007 BARDA "national security missions" to-date continued.[7] Requested is your support by contacting your members in the U.S. Congress. Please have them return to Veterans’ their Constitutional Rights with treatment for disabilities, oversight and accountability for all! Thank you.
