I had seen this before (I think over at Ara's place), but Quiddity found it posted on a Yahoo Message board so I thought I'd help the meme gain some legs.
Mark, this one's for you.
JOE REPUBLICANJoe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards.
With his first swallow of coffee, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to insure their safety and that they work as advertised.
All but $10 of Joe's medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.
In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained.
Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. the air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air.
He walks to the subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.
Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards.
Joe's employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune.
Its noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so the can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the GreatDepression.
Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime.
After work this evening, Joe plans to visit his father at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards.
He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification.
Joe is happy to see his father, who is now retired and lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to.
Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn't mention that the beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day.
Joe agrees: "We don't need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have."

Yeah, my mother, Helen the Democrat, was just diagnosed with the ever so painful bone cancer, a GS11 civilian government retiree whistle blower that exposed the famous budget anomalies of the 60s and 70s....She saved the government (us) billions of dollars because of her research and oversight responsibilities....Her thanks was a cookie crumb trophy ceremony and a stingy pension without the benefit of Social Security for which she paid into (gov employees can't collect SS and their pension simultaneously, it's one or the other, even if they paid into SS)....My Father is Bill, the deceased Democratic WWII vet, committed to a VA hospital when he returned, drugged to the hilt so as when I was old enough to find him in his VA psyche ward it was not an easy task to revive my childhood loss....He eventually fell from a seven story window to his death as a result of a medication change complication that the VA still hasn't justified to this day (testing?)....Can't even believe I'm saying this here and not on my own blog....Probably cuz it's good ol' Hal's place, or perhaps the tsunami depression fortified by the Merlot....Anyway, Joe Republican has a long road to travel on the "I get It" reality plane....Ya think?

Just once I'd love to see everyone who rails against the government live just one week without all that it provides. It's damn easy to rail against the government while it's supporting you. . .
...and I reiterate, the huge amount of sacrifices made to continually improve upon the civility of our daily lives....

The bets previous generations have made with future generations.
Hal,
I enjoyed your somewhat shop worn self serving little copy & paste propaganda piece. A few comments:
Golly! I have excellent health care benefits as do my employess. Why? Because I PAY FOR THEM. Not because some union told me I had to. In fact there are no unions in my field. I guess because people in my industry prefer to get raises and promotions based on merit and hard work. What percentage of the work force is unionized Hal? About 13% I think. Whomever wrote this propaganda sure gives the unions alot of the credit for things that employers do as good every day business practices. I wonder if that is because libs just naturally consider business as evil?
The best part is:
"which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor".
Don't you just love it? This really gets to the crux of liberal thinking. By making people who don't need or use services "contribute" to keep the cost down for people who actually use the service only encourages waste and higher costs. And I just love the use of the word "contribute".
Don't you really mean TAX Hal?
How lucky we are to have you liberals around to tell us how to contribute. Can you imagine if we didn't have you uber intelligent, sensitive and caring libs to tell us how to spend our money. Why we might just spend it on stupid things like saving for our retirement or educating our children or (gasp) investing it. Thanks Hal.
I find it interesting that your propagandist used the term "government-subsidized". Wouldn't it be a bit more accurate if the term "taxpayer-subsidized" was used Hal? I am sorry. I forgot that you libs really believe that the money belongs to the government and we are just fortunate that you libs and the government let us use it from time to time. You do know that the money is really ours don't you Hal? You do know the we really are only required to give the government the minimum amount of our money necessary for government to provide the services we tell it to provide? You do know that don't you Hal?
Lastly Hal I would like to take my hat off to your comrade who wrote the piece. The research that must have gone into this to ensure that liberals AND ONLY LIBERALS were responsible for all of the little common sense initatives like meat inspections etc. must have been exhaustive to say the least. By the way, if it was a lib who decided that Washington needs to regulate local play ground equipment or the heights of parking meters go ahead and take the credit.
Hal, just let me say thanks to you and your comrades for all you have done for this country. Gotta go now. I have to go evict an employeee from my company housing. HEE HEE HEEE!

Hal this gives me an idea about how we could allow children to pray in school again and still pass liberal muster. They could pray to the government instead of to God.
" Oh heavenly Government we thank you for all that you give to us and pray that you will see your way to continue to offer us your bounties. We know that we are undeserving and would be hopeless without thee......."
Hal, you understand that the government is not your mother don't you Hal? I don't think that you do.

Ever hear of the pledge of allegiance? Or are you wing nuts oblivious to the phrase "allegiance".
You guys really are completely nuts.
Seen this one before -- it's great every time.
To count meat inspections as "common sense" proves ignorance of Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle", and its consequences. The American meat packers' "common sense" in this regard materialized only in response to public outcry sparked by Sinclair. And Sinclair was a REAL communist - the kind that you don't find (over the age of 19, anwyay) anymore.
It's great to actually have read the books that are widely spoken of - gives one the sense of smugness that, outside of ignorance, is plain unavailable BTW. Heh...
To Hal:
You are probably a small businessman. You have to pay Insurance to attract a certain level of employee . The brightest people will never be attracted to you small company because big corporations can offer more benefits to employees.
At the same time, you probably are somewhat generous with bonuses, which can create the necessary loyalty from your employees to minimize employee turnover. Which increase productivity..... Those employees won't need to join a union.
You probably are competing with the big boys for gov't: local, state, federal.. thanks to those liberals who made sure that gov'ts must have a certain amount of small business contracts... I did! My bid was always the lowest, I made money, my employees got bonuses, and I did not increase taxes placed upon me, my business, nor employees!
I did not have the mentality of "the gov't has money charge double" which creates higher taxes for you, your business, your customers...etc.
um, no. We had real trouble getting health insurance because my partner has a family history of auto immune diseases. His daughter has diabetes. It sucked. So we had pretty bare bones insurance. As to bonuses, what were those? We had some small bits, but we were plowing everything into the company. As to unions? Geez, louis. During the '90s, no computer programmer would ever have considered joining a union even though they now really regret organizing, given the way they're treated now.
Never had a govn't contract. Never a state contract. Wouldn't have turned them down, just wasn't what my business was like.
well all i can say to you facist republicans is this. hitler hated liberals, socialists as well as democrats. HE TORTURED AND KILLED THEM. may i suggest this to our facist, hitleresque counterparts. dont use anything government subsidized. dont buy gas, dont takes meds weather ya pay for them or not. don't eat farm subsidized food. or any product thats labeled food. don't drive on our roads or highways. the way i see it mr. republican, hitleresque facist. if it wasn't for our commie-liberal ways you be up the creek with nothing to eat. HAVE A NICE DAY MARK!!!
