Laughing all the way to the bank

Apparently not. Another Moore talking point by the RWAP goes down in flame.

Big part of 'Fahrenheit 9/11' profit goes to charity

If so, the laughter may be muted. Despite their personal investment, the Weinstein brothers will not be the biggest financial beneficiaries of "Fahrenheit." The real winner: a charity, or charities, as yet unnamed, that will receive about 60 percent of the net profit ultimately generated by the film -- a tally that could be tens of millions of dollars. The Weinsteins, meanwhile, will pocket about 40 percent of the net, according to people familiar with the deal.
Of course, Disney still has the last laugh.
And who will pick the charities that get the money? Disney, the company that refused to release the movie, without having to consult either the Weinsteins or Mr. Moore.

I don't want to lose my hipster-commie-hate-America credentials, but 'net profit' seems to be kind of a joke in Hollywood terms. I recall that back in the 80's (?) Art Buchwald sued Eddie Murphy over 'net profit' from a movie that Art did scriptwriting work on, and much legal entertainment ensued. Apparently bookkeepers in Hollywood are both skilled and creative when it happens that a movie makes money. Nothing personal, but I'm curious to see what actual amount of cash ends up being donated.

It's all about PR, ain't it? But we're talking about a documentary. The cost really can't be that high, and the movie has been advertising itself thanks to the RWAP attacking it. So there isn't much fodder for the accounts there.

Granted, these are money hungry Jackals who won't give a penny more than can be pried out of their cold dead fingers. But still, it's a great PR coup, and one I'm not ashamed at all of using for the advantage of the Liberals. . .
