Amsterdam's key stoned cops face drug café ban
The interior minister, Johan Remkes, fears that the spectacle of spliff-wielding police - in or out of uniform - is chipping away at the force's respectable public image.Well, we don't let police officers drink alcohol on duty. Likewise I think it's a good idea to not have them smoke pot on duty. But policemen can drink all the beer they want off duty.He also believes that the Netherlands' finest risk being accused of hypocrisy when they carry out spot checks for drugs if they are dabbling in the weed themselves.
"A police officer has an exemplary role to fulfil and has to show some authority," he told De Telegraaf newspaper. "They could be in a difficult position if they have to stop and search people for drugs."
The question is for the Dutch is "Is pot more like alcohol than it is heroin".
I guess the Canadians are going to have to come up with an answer to that question as they're on their own track to decriminalization.
Here in the US, we have no such dilemnas.
I don't think it's gonna be that much of a delimma for the candians to decide whether or not to let cops smoke pot on duty. I'm guessing that's a pretty easy "no". Although I can't see the harm if they do it off-duty, out of uniform.
I think the question amsterdam is really struggling with is, is pot like alcohol, like heroin, or like coffee (should they be allowed to use it off duty only like alcohol, on duty like coffee, or never like heroin)? But I mean really, in this case, I think the common sense answer is to just let them cops do whatevers legal when they're off-duty, but ask them to avoid getting intoxicated on duty. Pretty simple.
I'm fairly certain it's not like coffee. Unless it's columbian.

i think that cops are really stupid and the only reason they eat their donuts and drink their coffee is b/c they are really hiiiggghhh and they have da MUNCHIES and they need something to drink... marijuana should be legal but i dont want to have to pay taxes on that. fuck that!!!!
